The York Rally that took the place of the Sasol Rally starts in Sabie Friday morning to about 10:15 at the Olifantsgeraamte. The rally, the second round of the SA National Rally Championship has drawn 25 national and African Rally competitors.
The event is also the third round of the African Rally Championship and two ARC competitors are included in the entry list out of 21 registered ARC competitors that compete elsewhere in Africa. In addition seven competitors have entered for the regional part of the rally.
The event will be run over 14 stages. Seven of the stages will be held on Friday and the rest on Saturday after the overnight stop in Sabie where the event will finish Saturday afternoon.
The entry list include seven R2 class competitors who qualify for the national 1600 championship, nine classic competitors competing for the Classic Champions, four open class entries and three RC2 competitors.
The foreign entries include Jaspreeth Singh Chatthe and Don Smith who are both competing for the ARC title.
The leading R2 competitor is Guy Botterill in a Toyota Etios R2. He can expect strong competition from Richard Leeke in a Ford Fiesta R2.
In the open section all eyes will be on the Japie van Niekerk Ford Fiesta S2000 entry who is expected to produce a great show.
The rally will be completed over a distance of 250 special stage kilometres including four town tar stages. The Clerk of the Course is Willie Du Plessis and the organising club SAM.
