Ken Block returns to WRC

Block pulled out of the World Rallycross Championship at the end of 2017 with the withdrawal of Ford from the series as the iconic brand focuses its attention on its rally operations.

Block will return to WRC for the first time since 2014 as part of a mixed programme which includes rounds of the USA rally championship in a Ford Escort Cosworth. The US stunt driver will get his first experience of the latest generation of WRC cars at the Spanish event on October 25-28 competing for his own Hoonigan Racing Division squad.

It takes a huge amount of effort and training to race in the WRC,” Block said. “But I’ll be cramming that into a short period of testing beforehand. It’s not really enough time in the car to properly prepare for a WRC attack, but I’ll take what I can get.”

The 50-year-old has useful previous experience in WRC with 24 starts including a ninth place finish in his debut at the Spanish event alongside co-driver Alex Gelsomino who will be in the navigator’s seat once again in October.

Block’s made his WRC debut at the sport’s top level back in 2007 in Mexico and his best finish to date is seventh place at the 2013 edition of Rally Guanajuato Mexico.
