Action-packed national race day waits for the Engen Xtreme Audi A3s in East London

The Engen Xtreme Team heads to the East London Grand Prix Circuit for round three of the Extreme Festival on Saturday, May 22. This event is the second coastal round on the 2017 calendar for the Engen Xtreme Audi A3 GTC racers.

“Two rounds into the national Sasol GTC Africa season and the Engen Xtreme Team is well on track to another dominant year,” says Terry Moss of Terry Moss Racing. “Commitment in the workshop is paying off on track when combined with driver skill to produce the results that win championships.”

For this event, Simon Moss (38) goes into competition on a strong footing, second-place in the series – 66 points ahead of his rival in third spot and behind the championship leader by just 41 points. Moss has raised the bar on his racing performances this year and is leading the way for the Engen Xtreme Team.

The pair of Engen Xtreme Audi A3 GTC race cars set the pace at Kyalami again – with both Engen Xtreme Team drivers stepping on to the podium. Michael Stephen (1) was forced to retire while leading race one but went on to win the second race. Moss, in turn, finished second and third at the Johannesburg event for second overall on race day.

Defending champion in the GTC series, Engen Xtreme Team’s Michael Stephen overcame his round one technical problems by roaring into action at round two – and now heads to round three already in fifth place overall in the GTC championship.

A repeat of his Kyalami performance and he will have stepped a further rung on the GTC ladder for 2017 – with six rounds still to run.

The East London event provides a dual challenge for competitors. High speed, close racing through Potter’s Pass and Rifle Bend, has to be countered by skill and handling finesse when encountering the Complex. The field then head downs the back straight to Beacon Corner before stomping on the accelerator and pushing their engines to the limit as they tackle the main straight heading to Potter’s Pass once more.

Racing in East London is equally a test of skill and nerves as the drivers have to push themselves and their machines to the very limit. To succeed here, there is no other way to win races. The Engen Xtreme Team will be leading the way to the chequered flag, leaving their competition to follow as they try to keep up
