Chile hosts candidate rally

Chile takes the biggest step yet in its bid to join the FIA World Rally Championship calendar when it hosts the RallyMobil Concepción candidate event this weekend.

The dirt road rally, which is hoping to earn a WRC slot next year, will be observed by the FIA’s Timo Rautiainen and safety delegate Michele Mouton will also attend.

Representatives from WRC teams will view the event infrastructure and the special stages and WRC Promoter personnel will also be present.

The rally is based in Concepción and begins with an opening ceremony in the city’s main square on Friday evening. Seven stages on Saturday are followed by five more on Sunday, making 143.76km of competition in a total route of 483.21km.

It forms a round of Chile’s national championship and will run as closely to WRC format as possible. Live TV stages will be broadcast during both legs and the rally will close with a Power Stage on Sunday afternoon.
