Engen Xtreme Team set to impress at Zwartkops

Showing incremental improvements through each round of the 2017 Sasol GTC Africa, all bodes well for the Engen Xtreme Team ahead of Round Six at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, 12 August. This is according to team principal, Terry Moss, who believes the Engen Xtreme Team is going from strength-to-strength with every event in 2017.

With four of the nine round season left to race, Engen Xtreme team drivers Michael Stephen and Simon Moss lie second and third respectively in the race for championship honours. Gennaro Bonafede of the Sasol GTC Racing team leads the way on 370 points, 29 points ahead of Stephen and 62 points ahead of Moss.

“Both Mike and Simon are in the top three of the championship and both can challenge strongly for the title this year – Michael for his second Sasol GTC Africa title and Simon for his first GTC championship title,” says Moss.

“The closer we get to the finale, the more exciting this race to the finish is going to get. I’m expecting some great results from both drivers going forward – and seeing them finish on the podium regularly,” adds Moss.

A pole position performance in qualifying will make Stephen a tough opponent at the narrow Zwartkops circuit where overtaking must be strategically planned and executed to ensure success.

As the fastest qualifier from the previous round in Port Elizabeth, Stephen enters Zwartkops knowing he has got the raw pace to trouble his opponents.

For Moss, Round Six will be an event where he works on consolidating what is becoming a very strong third place in the national championship. With two second-place finishes in the previous round in Port Elizabeth, he is now 111 points ahead of Johan Fourie in fourth-place.

Two race wins are worth 100 points. With four rounds (and two races per round) still to run this year, Moss certainly has scope to challenge strongly for the overall championship. This would certainly create an exciting finale for the second championship season of the Sasol GTC Africa.
