JULIAN OFF TO INDIANAPOLIS

Julian van der Watt is eyeing continued progress as he races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the second round of his US Formula 2000 road to Indy campaign over the 10-12 May weekend. The reigning South African Formula 1600 champion heads to the Indianapolis Grand Prix circuit that runs partly on the oval and then on the old Formula 1 circuit on the infield in a competitive eighth in the championship standings, following a positive start on the Grand Prix of St Petersburg in March.
“I had a really good first outing in Florida on my first race on a street circuit, but it’s been a long wait to get back racing since then!” Capetonian Julian explained. “I really can’t wait to race on the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit — I watched all the Formula 1 races there when I was a kid and now I get the opportunity to race on that hallowed ground in the month of May!
“Team Pelfrey is doing an incredible job with my RDSA Crossley & Webb Tatuus-Mazda and I’m looking forward to racing on a track a little more like I am used to, but most important of all, I’m looking forward to flying the South African flag proud at Indianapolis!” Julian’s weekend starts with testing and practice on Thursday 10 May before qualifying and race 1 on Friday and race 2 Saturday and fans can follow his progress via www.usf2000.com.
