Toyota has unveiled images of its new TS050 which will contest the World Endurance Championship superseason 2018/19. Specifications for the new car have changed very little despite being the only hybrid car left in the LMP1 class after the departures of Audi and Porsche.
Double Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has taken the place of Anthony Davidson in the #8 car as the Spaniard searches for the illustrious ‘triple crown’ in an otherwise unchanged line-up for the Japanese squad. Davidson will remain with Toyota as a reserve driver.
The new car has already been on track for a shakedown and endurance test at the Aragon circuit in Spain, Alonso also took part in the test which happened on the day his participation with the team was announced.
Further tests with the TS050 will take place at the official WEC prologue for the new season at the Paul Ricard circuit on April 6-7.
The new 2018/19 superseason kicks off with the ‘Six hours of Spa-Francorchamps’ which will take place on May 5.
