Despite a tumultuous start to the 2015 season, during which Red Bull and Renault have each criticized the other, Marko has admitted that options have been discussed to either sell or repaint Toro Rosso to help Renault’s visibility.
In an exclusive interview with Formula1.com, Marko said: “Renault feels under-represented on the marketing side so there are considerations to either buy Toro Rosso or more likely give them a yellow livery to have a better marketing platform.”
Marko said that Red Bull Racing would have to remain as the parent company to supply technology to its B-team, saying a “close interaction of both teams is paramount to such a scenario”.
He denied that there were any talks to sell Red Bull Racing for $300million to Audi, and confirmed that its contract with Renault runs until the end of next year.
Marko also revealed that any incoming engine manufacturer would need to start its development now to be ready for the anticipated new rules in 2017, and denied that Red Bull was interested in developing its own power unit.
