MotoGP Misano: Rossi: There will be a lot of pressure on me

MotoGP World Championship leader Valentino Rossi admits he will be under extra pressure this weekend at Misano as the Movistar Yamaha rider aims to bolster his title advantage. Rossi capitalised on the wet conditions at Silverstone last time out to clinch a timely victory, opening a lead of 12 points over team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.

The nine-time world champion has yet to finish outside the top three this season on the M1 and Rossi boasts an impressive record at the Marco Simoncelli circuit, triumphing last year in San Marino and taking two wins in 2008 and 2009, third in 2010 and second in 2012.

Rossi, whose home in Tavullia is only 20 minutes’ drive from the Italian venue, said: “We now arrive in Misano and there will be a lot of pressure on me, especially from the fans, friends and family that are coming, but I like this track a lot.

“There is always a great atmosphere in Misano and it’s really my home race, because the track is only 10km away from Tavullia.

“Last year I rode a great race, but at the same time Jorge is also very fast there, so it will be another great fight,” he added.

“I’ll have to manage the situation in the right way. It will be difficult, but the most important thing is that this is a place where I’m able to go fast and where Yamaha is usually very strong.”
