MORE than 20 spectators have been injured after a British millionaire crashed his supercar into the crowd at a rally in Malta.Paul Bailey was driving his $1.62 million Porsche 918 Spyder supercar on Sunday when he clipped the grass, spun out of control and ploughed into spectators, according to the Times of Malta.
Witnesses said the sports car was driving at high speed along an unused airport taxiway when the accident occurred.Five of the injured were in critical condition, while at least nine — including the driver — suffered fractures or cuts requiring hospital treatment, officials said.
Malta Today reported that a six year-old girl is among those in a critical condition.
Witnesses said the sports car was driving at high speed along an unused airport taxiway in the Hal Farrug district when the accident occurred.
An eyewitness told the Times of Malta the car was speeding down the taxiway when a back wheel went on the grass.
“The car spun out of control, went through the barriers where a large crowd was watching, and into the area of the static car exhibition.
“Many people were hit, there was chaos and screams.”
Mr Bailey, 55, who ran a successful communications firms before selling it for in 2012 for $60 million, owns 76 cars, the paper reported.

Minutes before yesterday’s smash he was interviewed at the scene, speaking of his pride at having brought four of his supercars for free to support the charity event.
Among them were the so-called ‘Holy Trinity of supercars’ – The McLaren P1, La Ferrari and the Porsche Spyder that the Briton crashed.
Mr Bailey was revealed earlier this year to be the first person in the world to own the ‘Holy Trinity’ that have combined value $6.4 million.
