The Midvaal Raceway will roar!

The third round of the Inland Championship Roadshow will head to the rustic Midvaal Raceway on Saturday 7 May for another action packed event The Big Boss Auto Super Saloon category is always a fan favourite with the V8 GTA class growing in strength. Ben Morgenrood (Ford Mustang) and Franco Di Matteo (Jaguar) will once again be under huge pressure from the new generation of younger driver who has entered the fray.

Seef Fourie Junior (Chev Lumina) is more than capable of a podium position, with drivers like Mackie Adlem (Jaguar) and Terry Wilford (Ford Falcon) able to challenge for a victory as well. Other newcomers like Amos Cockerham Junior (Chev Corvette) and Devin Robertson (Chev Corvette) are also expected to cause a few upsets. Willie Hepburn (Opel Rekord) will be missed in the GT2 class but Jody Viana (Mazda RX8) is expected to challenge for the GT3 honours. Series newcomer Adrian Dalton (VW Golf) is a likely contender in GT4 while Jimmy Tsimenglou (BMW M3) will once again challenge for the GT5 laurels.

The Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series has consistently brought with it the biggest fields in the Inland Championship with close and competitive racing setting the mark. With four different classes making up the category, there is nonstop action from front to back. Julian Fameliaris (E36 328i Turbo) has set the early pace this season in class A, but can once again expect some tough opposition from Darren Winterboer (F30 335i Turbo) who claimed a double victory in his first appearance of the year at the second round.

Class B has seen a number of drivers challenge for the lead, with the likes of Riaan Woest (E46 M3 GTR), Rick Loureiro (E30 3.2 CSL) and more recently Stefano Martinelli (E36 328i Turbo) challenging for the win. Class C should see Mish-al Sing (E30 325is) fighting for top honours against Lorenzo Gaultieri (E36 328i). With a number of other drivers finding good pace as well the challenge should be far closer at Midvaal. Craig Ball (E36 328i) has dominated class D in the early part of the season but should come under pressure from a number of very capable drivers.

The INEX Legends Championship is expected to once again produce its unique blend of action packed racing. Divan Myburgh has taken an early lead in the Pro class with Seef Fourie and Keagan Wessels not too far behind. Justin Robertson has also set the pace in the Masters category but a recent charge by Anton Repsold and good results from Steve Nel will see Robertson under pressure at Midvaal. The Semi Pro class has also seen some close action with school girl Lonika Maartens currently leading ahead of Dawid Fourie and Shjaell Nel. Young Lion contender Clinton Bezuidenhout leads his class as well but has certainly set tongues wagging with his strong Overall performances of late as well.

The Yokohama Modified Production Cars will return to their usual sprint racing format with a few drivers needing to prove a point or two. Dirk Lawrence (Honda Ballade) and team mate Jeff Langeveldt (Honda CRX) should return in the battle for class A honours. Adrian Dalton (VW Golf) will no doubt be the top contender in Class B while Kalyn Miller (Ford Icon) will be looking to lead the Class C field as well. The rejuvenated SRA class should see Fritz Kleynhans (Shelby) and Mario Nardini (Nardini SP308) fighting for honours.

The Midvaal Historics and Trofeo Challenge categories continue to produce some close and competitive racing. Shawn Smidt (Datsun 160Y) has taken an early lead in the championship. Brendan Parker (Datsun GX Coupe) and Trofeo Challenger Warren Ewart (Alfa GTV 6) could also pose a threat however. With a number of different classes in the category and no less than a dozen other drivers in the field this Historic racing series adds a unique flavour to the Inland Championship.

Single seater fans are also catered for with the Formula Monoposto series which has a wide variety of open wheel cars consisting of Formula Libre and Formula M classes. The category should once again provide for some exciting open wheel racing. Also joining on the day will be the Historic Single Seaters. These cars was seen racing Formula 1 in the 60’s and are built by likeminded individuals with a love for keeping historic cars racing and not in museums. Typical cars expected would be a 1962 Lotus 23 Replica, a 1964 LDS MK4 and a 1968 Titan MK4 Formula Ford.

The Silver Cup, a series dedicated to grass roots motorsport, will also be hoping to boost their numbers boasting with a wide variety of vehicles from hatch backs to sedans, panel vans and LDV’s, convertibles and even electric vehicles.
