The Extreme Festival of motorsport will return to its place of birth this Thursday (June 16), at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria to present spectators with 19 car races, plus a variety of other entertainment.
@ The day’s main crowd drawcard will be two races for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars, with a varied and spectacular field set to face the starter.
Pre-event victory favourites will include Charl Arangies (Stradale Lamborghini Galardo), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430), Anton Cronje (AF Hydraulics Subaru WRX), Darren Winterboer (Barons BMW F30) and Willem van der Westhuizen (Stradale Ferrari 430).
Others who could occupy podiums will include Jonathan Shenkman (Stradale Lamborghini Galardo), Dawie Olivier (G&H Transport BMW M3), Nicky Dicks (Stradale Porsche GT3), Gianni Giannoccaro (G&H Transport BMW M3 GT), Mark du Toit (TAR Ferrari 360), Andre’ van der Merwe (Ferrari 360), Oliver Dalais (Marlboro Crane Porsche 996), Tato Carello (Sandton BMW M3) and Jimmy Giannoccaro (Cugini Logistics Ferrari Ferrari 430).
@ The day’s biggest field will be provided by the 111 Sports and Saloons category, with a total of 42 entries set to wage battle.
Front runners must include Chad Wentzel Alfa Romeo GT), Robyn Kruger (Steamsure Polo), Harry Arangies (Stradale Porsche 944), Jannie van Rooyen (VW Scirocco), Ryan Quan-Chai (RDG BMW Z4), Ryan Quan-Chai (RDG BMW Z4), Vaughn Obhlidal (Rislone BMW E30)
@ Morne Human (ANCRO Mini Cooper S) will be the man to beat in the AutObarn Northern Bolt & Tool SuperHatch races, challenged by people like Brett Garland (Jonnesway Honda Civic), Jeffrey Kruger (Ukubila Polo), Hilton van Nieuwenhuizen (ASAP Citroen C2), Jono Konig (ASAP Peugeot 206), Ishmael Balloyi (TAR Honda Civic) and Mel Spurr (Turn 1 Opel Corsa).
@ The Investchem Formula 1600 races should provide intense competition between drivers like Dewald Brummer (MAD Mygale), Julian van der Watt (Investchem Mygale), Alex Gillespie (ERP Trucking Mygale), Allen Meyer (Van Diemen) and Andrew Schofield (Investchem Mygale).
@ The Comsol VW Challenge brigade will bring another large entry to the party, with 36 cars on the tarmac.
Top drivers will include Tasmin Pepper (Alpine Motors Polo), Rory Atkinson (Comsol Polo), Gavin Ross (Norbrake Polo), Derick Smalberger (Sabertek Beetle), Waldie Meintjes (Thompson Polo), James Hurley (Starter Pack Polo), Mile Stewart (RCS Security Polo) and Ian Stevenson (Comsol Polo).
@ Top drivers in the hugely competitive Hankook Formula Vee races will see people like Jaco Schriks (Black Steer Rhema), Peter Hills (Lube Fusion Rhema), Gert van der Berg (BP Nantes Rhema), Symm Grobler (Rhema) and Lushen Ramchander Miami Products Rhema) fighting at the front ened.
@ The National Sports Car Challenge races should see the Fantastic Racing Shelby Can-Am entries of Doug MacDonald, Donovan Roscoe, Mike Verrier, Wayne Jardine and Mark Lauth at the front end. Adding flavour to the mix will be entries like James Forbes (lpcoweb ADR), Fernando dos Santos (ACD Nardini), Fabienne Lanz (Fantastic Sports 2000), Andrew Horn Nash PB15) and Kobus van Rooyen (ACD Nardini).
@ With Global Touring Cars on display in the pits, a number of GTC Lite and Class X vehicles will tackle two races.
The competitors will include Daniel Rowe (VW Golf GTI), Mathew Hodges (VWSA Golf GTI), Mandla Mdakana (VWSA Golf GTi), and class X with Morne Human (ANCRO Mini Cooper S) and Mel Spurr (BMW 1-Series).
Racing apart, the event will provide a wide range of activities, with a beer garden, live music, a flea market and kiddies entertainment.
There will also be two Global Touring Cars on display in the pits.
As always, everybody is invited to visit the pits on foot, and a Mini Moke train will provide non-stop transport between the spectator stands and the race paddock.
The gates will be open from 6am, with qualifying sessions from 7am.
Racing will commence at 10.20am.
