Jonathan Rea is looking to continue his winning ways when the 2017 World SBK Championship resumes at the Lausitzring in Germany following the lengthy summer break.The Northern Irishman remains well on course for a third consecutive WSBK title in the wake of a resounding first-half to the season, Rea winning nine of the 16 races so far in 2017.
With five rounds and ten races remaining, Rea arrives in Germany looking to further extend his 59 point advantage over Kawasaki team-mate Tom Sykes.
really excited to get back to racing again after the summer break. Our test at the Lausitzring a few weeks ago was positive and I feel more confident about returning there after a difficult race last year.
“The track is very bumpy but we managed to find a good compromise with our setup and I feel good about our starting point for the weekend. During the break I prepared myself for the next phase of the championship. The target is to work in the same way we have been doing all season.”
Rea – who was a race winner on WSBK’s return to German soil in 2016 – faces few challengers for a third straight title with Kawasaki having also opened up a 115 point lead over Chaz Davies in third and a 152 point lead over fourth place man Marco Melandri.
