As noted in our preview of the TA and TA2 categories, defending Sebring race winner Ernie Francis Jr. will be looking for a third consecutive Trans Am title in TA. There also are a host of challengers in TA2, including defending TA2 powered by AEM champion Rafa Matos, last year’s Sebring pole winner and race runner-up.
Further down the class order are the newly renamed (but featuring the same well-established technical package) SuperGT and GT. All five of the top championship finishers in the SuperGT (formerly TA3) class are expected to return in 2019, with four of those five entered for the Sebring round. Mark Boden is seeking his fourth career and third-consecutive SGT victory at Sebring in the No. 46 Beverage Flavors International Porsche 991 GT3 Cup. Tom Herb, Dave Ricci and Milton Grant also return to challenge for top class honors.
GT (formerly TA4) will boast a Maserati vs Aston Martin (and others) battle, with Jeff Courtney, Steven Davidson, and Fernando Seferlis all entered in the production-based category for Sunday’s sprint.
For its opener, the Trans Am Series joins the SVRA Sebring Vintage Classic and International GT Series in a jam-packed weekend of racing. Each of the four Trans Am classes will test on Friday; practice and qualify on Saturday; and race on Sunday.
