KNRC’s most successful driver Ian Duncan hopes to prevail over the high-tech cars when the season-opening KCB Kisumu Rally gets underway. Having already taken some impressive scalps, incidentally with six KNRC titles under his belt, Duncan will be navigated by Amaar Slatch in a Liquid Petroleum, Xado-sponsored Nissan Pick-up.
The 1994 WRC Safari Rally winner in a locally build pick-up hopes to once again vanquish state-of-the-art Protons of Carl Tundo and Alastair Cavenagh, the new Ford Fiesta R5s of Manvir Baryan and Rajbir Rai and the Mitsubishi EvoX of defending champion Baldev Chager.
Ford Fiesta R5s are the latest cars to arrive in Kenya thus placing the country only second to South Africa on the continent in as far as rally technology is concerned. The R5s, which have graced several FIA World Rally Championship events have been factored in the 2015 National Competition Rules.
Raju is son of former Kericho driver Amaarjeet Sagoo who retired from rally back in the 90s while Jansher is son of former Clubman Rally champion Kulwinder Sandhu. Sagoo started his racing career last year and has since participated in two Training Rallies while Jansher has acquired Ian Duncan’s old Evo9 car. The rally will be flagged off outside KCB Kisumu branch at 7am then finish at Chemase’s Kibos Sugar Weighbridge at 1.39pm.
The spectator stage will be situated behind the service park.
