Final Round of National Rally Action for Volkswagen Sasolracing Team

The Volkswagen Sasolracing rally team enters the final round of the 2014 SA National Rally Championship on a strong footing, having achieved second place at the Polokwane event. For the final round the team will travel to Limpopo to compete in the Bela-Bela Motor Rally on Friday and Saturday, 21 and 22 November.

The Bela-Bela event is a new one on the national rally calendar, creating a level field that will see the teams extremely dependent on their two recce pass to create pace notes capable of guiding them to a successful finish.

Hans Weijs Jnr and his stand-in navigator, Hans van Doorn, campaigned to second at the penultimate round of the season. Weijs and his regular navigator, Björn Degandt, enter the last on a strong footing for a repeat performance.

According to the event organisers the Bela-Bela event will see the rally competitors tackling twisty stages that will demand a great deal of concentration, rather than relying on flat-out rallying to make the finish line.

Gugu Zulu and Carl Peskin were fourth overall at the Polokwane event, a strong result for the pair and they will be aiming to improve on that finish at the season finale. Henk Lategan and Barry White will contest the Bela-Bela Motor Rally soon after their competition in the Rallye Waldviertel in Austria. The pair return to South Africa to round off their season of rally action in Limpopo, focused on producing a good result to end their season on a high note.

The last event for 2014 will see rally competitors tackle 10 stages over the two days of the event, four on Friday and the remaining six on Saturday, with tricky rallying conditions predicted to make up the majority of the stages. Before the rally a parade will take place from Bella Mall at 13:00 on Friday and rally fans can catch up with the teams at the old caravan park, opposite the Forever Resort.
