BMW vs Porsche at Kyalami
June
The Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series returns to Midvaal as guests of the Inland Championship. The series stole the show in November 2014 at their first invitational on the regional tour and plan to do it again on the 20th of June. The series features some of the fastest race cars in the country, as well as the ever-growing BMW Challenge class for novices. The BMW Challenge is a technically regulated class that uses a reasonably standard BMW E36 328i that runs on Bridgestone road tyres where all components used are identical. The class aims to attract the novice driver into competitive motorsport by creating a level playing field and low running cost. The mandatory component and preparation cost of these cars is just R75 000, over and above the purchase of the car.
August
The Club will host its 33rd annual Concours d’Elegance, arguably the most prestigious event on the Club calendar. It will be held at the Montecasino Outdoor Piazza on Sunday 30 August where perfection is the only standard. Classic and collectible BMWs will be judged for their originality, condition and preparation. Montecasino is the perfect venue, with a wide range of restaurants and a host of activities to enjoy- it’s a great day out for the entire family.
October
Together with the reinvigorated Porsche Club Central, the Club will host a double-header Porsche vs BMW Challenge. The first event will be held at the newly completed Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit as part of the Bridgestone Track Challenge on 10 October. This is in effect an open track day with classes for BMW, Porsche and an open class that welcomes all other manufacturers. It will also feature the Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series and possibly the GT Supercup. The second event takes place at Tarlton Raceway on 18 October at the Bridgestone/Speed and Sound Tar Gymkhana. In this event, a tight and challenging course is laid out in the staging area before finishing on the 400m drag strip.
