Red Star Next for DEOD SuperGP Champions Trophy

The fourth round of the DEOD SuperGP Champions Trophy will take place on 14 June 2015 when the series heads back inland to the Red Star Raceway in Mpumalanga.  While the outcome of the first race at the third round in Cape Town is still the subject of an appeal, the usual protagonists are likely to be fighting it out for championship points at the head of the Super GP field.

Whatever the outcome of the appeal, defending champion Clint Seller (NeoLife Africa Yamaha R1) leads the title race and will be looking to get back to winning ways to put a bit of distance between himself and the chasing pack. Seller’s first outing on his new Yamaha at Killarney did not go according to plan – electrical problems put paid to any chance of a good result in the first race but he showed real pace in the second race, losing out on the win to Brent Harran (RD Racing Odin Powersport Kawasaki ZX10R) by just six hundredths of a second.

Harran has been in a rich vein of form recently and will be looking to extend his run of wins at Red Star. Lance Isaacs (Black Swan Racing / BMW Motorrad S1000RR) was plagued by brake problems in Cape Town. He will be hoping for a more consistent performance in Mpumalanga.

Mathew Scholtz (EmTek Racing Nashua Yamaha R1) piloted his new bike to two second podium finishes at its first outing in Cape Town. He, and team mate Brandon Goode, will be looking to build on the promise shown by the new Yamahas.

Super600

Steven Odendaal (NeoLife Africa Yamaha R6) didn’t have things all his own way in Cape Town allowing Michael White (Consortium Shipping Kawasaki ZX6) to close the gap at the top of the championship log to just 10 points. Blaze Baker (Russell Wood Kawasaki ZX6) and Nicole van Aswegen (Triumph SA / Women in Motorsport Triumph 675), who had the best result of her Super600 career in Cape Town, are third and fourth respectively ahead of Adolf Boshoff who missed the Killarney round due to injury.

SuperJunior

The numbers in the SuperJunior category, where all the competitors are mounted on identical KTM RC390 motorcycles, have been growing at each event. Just three points separate the top three riders in the championship. Brandon Staffen leads from William Friend and Luca Coccioni with Dominic Doyle the best of the rest.

The next four riders are separated by just eight points – Reinhald Joubert leading that battle from Jenna Eekhout, Tyreece Roberts and Cape Town double winner Kewyn Snyman.

SuperM

The SuperM races at Killarney were dominated by Cape Town riders but they are unlikely to make the trip to Red Star Raceway. Beau Levey (Motos KTM RC8) is likely to be back at the head of the field although he should have competition from Neil van Loggerenberg (KTM RC8) and Jannie Moll (Motos KTM RC8) who both missed the last round.

Tin Run Tour

The Tin Run Tour is an initiative that has been running at all the DEOD SuperGP Champions Trophy events this season and will be in operation at Red Star. Motorcyclists, and their passengers, are given free entry to the circuit on race day in exchange for a tin of food each provided they arrive before 10h00. In Cape Town generous spectators donated almost 1000 tins of food. These were handed over to the Elim Night Shelter.
