“Its sad to lose another country but its totally understandable. To go to Madagascar is very expensive and for organisers its too much effort put in just to get two or no foreign driver there,” says Muna Singh Sr a member of the rally commission on FIA as well as managing ARC.
“We need to rethink with complete new ideas and change the way Africa runs the championship.”
“I have made some suggestions to FIA and am working with a group of competent people to see if we can come up quickly with a better solution. It will be in a similar line with my proposal I presented last year,” he says.
In last year’s Confederation of Africa countries in Motorsports(CACMs) meeting that took place in Uganda, Singh proposed that ARC should be divided into regions; North, East, West and South.
Qualifying regional championships would be organised and the leaders of each region compete in the final race to get the ARC champion.
Meanwhile its not only the number of events that has depreciated but also the number of drivers that participate in the events.
“Well entries are always there, we get like five-six crews but its almost always two that go further,” says Singh.
2016 ARC has three registered contenders at the moment; Gary Chaynes from Ivory Coast, Don Smith from Kenya and Abdu Sempembwa of Uganda.
However, entries for this year are still open up to the end of April.
