Alpine has a six-race series for the A110 Cup planned for next year, and it’s going to build around 20 cars.French sports-car maker Alpine became a legend through its motorsports success, so it’s only appropriate that its comeback car, the impossibly gorgeous A110, goes racing too.
Today, Alpine announced the Alpine Europa Cup, a six-race European series featuring a racing version of the A110. Alpine plans on building around 20 A110 Cup cars with its endurance-racing partner Signatech, each costing €100,000 (roughly $116,000).
The A110 Cup uses the same monocoque chassis as the streetcar, but it’s been modified to handle a 40mm ride-height reduction, a steel roll cage, and revised suspension geometry. It gets double wishbones all around with fully-adjustable Öhlins Dampers, and Brembo brakes to bring everything to a hault. Power comes from a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 270 hp and comes paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox.
Development for the A110 Cup will be led by Alpine LMP2 drivers Nicolas Lapierre and Nelson Panciatici, but the company is seeking amateur racers to help out too. Alpine wants this car to be accessible to drivers of all skill levels.
