Jeffrey Earnhardt, nephew of Dale Jr., son of Kerry Earnhardt will be the one to fly the flag for the American racers. Who? Jeffrey, Grandson of the Man in Black himself, Dale Earnhardt Sr. Jeffrey has been running in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a few years now. Even though he hasn’t won a race yet, it’s not from a lack of trying.
JE, has yet to be part of a front of the pack team, do to a lack of Sponsor dollars. But he is one of the more popular drivers in the Xfinity series, he probably signs as many autographs as the next ten series drivers. But that’s not all…
He’s even done MMA before, so he’s in peak physical condition. He’s considered one of the most physically fit, drivers in NASCAR. So watch out English Pub drunks, Jeffrey isn’t a pushover. So why is he headed to England again?
He’s going over to race of course. He’ll be competing in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series event at the Brands Hatch circuit in England. What’s the NASCAR Euro Series? Why I’m glad you asked…
The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is the youngest of of NASCAR’s series. And the only one held entirely outside of North America. While they have two, non-American series…NASCAR Mexico, and NASCAR Canadian Tire series. NASCAR Euro, has zero events in North America. With events across Europe. So what kind of cars, do they drive?
NasE, use…FIA (Federation International Automobile) certified tube frame chassis’s…with, 400hp “Spec” Chevy engines (doesn’t matter which body you use, engine is the same)…they are Rear Wheel Drive, and weight in at 2650lbs…they run on both dry and wet tracks, oval and road course. Every event weekend, includes four races, over two different divisions. The two divisions are…Elite 1 and Elite 2…with two drivers sharing one car.
So what about TV? Well the series is broadcast in about…130+ countries, to over 50 million households. So I can see these races here in the states right? Ummm…yes and no.
You see NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is currently not available on “ANY” major sports network on this side of the pond. But…you can watch it live. Only, you would be watching on the internet. Each and every Euro series event is available on live Stream via, FanChoice.tv, a site that has several NASCAR fringe racing properties broadcast on it.
The best way to describe the Euro series is to say…cross the NASCAR K&N late model series with, touring car racing, mix in full contact V8 action and noise…enjoy. According to those who pay close attention to the series…it is growing by leaps and bounds. It is said to be near equal to many of the other euro sports car series, in terms of crowd size. The exceptions being…British Tour Car, the German DTM, and WTCC (World Tour Car Championship).
Why should you care? Well, this is part of NASCAR trying to globalize their brand. NASCAR wants to, eventually, make the Sprint Cup series, an international series. And who better then an Earnhardt to help make that dream, of Brian France’s happen.
Will hardcore American NASCAR fans like this? Most likely not, but it’s called, evolution! Any sport or business, for that matter, that doesn’t evolve, will die! Whether this is a good thing or not, doesn’t really matter right now. All that matters is, an Earnhardt is going to England, and the Euro drivers had better be ready.
