Brad Binder has won the British Moto3 round in what turned out to be a hard race for the South African.Testing conditions made it hard for the field to go fast, meaning that the pace was not as quick as previous years. However, Binder was able to just get in front to take 25 points in the championship.
He started well at the front, battling it out with Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini. Nobody was able to gap the rest of the field, allowing more riders to join in.
Two of these came from the back of the field. Jorge Navarro crashed in qualifying, but came through to lead the race for a brief spell. Also coming from the back was Stefano Manzi, a wildcard for the Mahindra Team.
The leading group battled away until a racing incident saw Navarro clip Manzi and crash, taking Andrea Migno with him. This is an important incident for the Championship, as it allowed Binder to extend his lead over Navarro even further.
Binder was able to take the lead late on, overtaking teammate Bo Bendsneyder. He was able to carry this home to take the win and almost wrap up his championship.
Bagnaia came home in second, just in front of Bo Bendsneyder, who took home his first Moto3 podium.
Stefano Manzi put in a fantastic ride to finish fourth, only narrowly missing out of a podium. Nicolo Bulega finished fifth, whilst Fabio Di Giannantonio came home in sixth.
Niccolo Antonelli, Enea Bastianini and Aron Canet finished seventh, eighth and ninth respectively whilst Joan Mir was the final rider inside the top ten.
It was not a great home race for John McPhee, with the Scot coming home in 18th place.
The Moto3 championship returns next week, as the paddock moves on to Misano and the San Marino GP.
