Bol d’Or: bike endurance racing returns to Le Castellet

This year’s Bol d’Or sees the famous 24-hour bike race return to Le Castellet, France, on September 19-20. In addition to the fight to win the last round of the 2015 FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC), the event will decide the battles not only for this year’s world title but also for the SuperStock World Cup.

After 15 races at Magny-Cours, the Bol d’Or has returned to Le Castellet in the south of France where the 79th edition will wrap up the 2015 endurance season.

On paper, four teams still stand a chance of claiming the title since the winner will pick up 60 points, while 20 bonus points (two x 10) are up for grabs for the race leader after eight and 16 hours.

SERT (Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Etienne Masson) currently enjoys an advantage of 23 points over its closest chaser and is clearly in a strong position to clinch the title for the 14th time. After winning the 24 Heures Moto at Le Mans, SERT came fourth at Suzuka and second at Oschersleben. The Dominique Méliand squad is as efficient on the track as it is in the pits and is targeting a 16th Bol d’Or victory.

Meanwhile, GMT 94, which is second in the championship after winning the 8 Hours of Oschersleben, is SERT’s biggest challenger for the title and that will be the main mission of outgoing champs David Checa, Kenny Foray and Mathieu Gines in France.

Team Bolliger Switzerland (3rd) and Junior Team LMS Suzuki (4th) still have a theoretical but slender chance of spoiling the title hopes of SERT and GMT 94.

Although no longer in the running for the crown, SRC Kawasaki (Leblanc/Foret/Lagrive), Honda Racing Endurance (Da Costa/F.Foray/Gimbert), YART (Parkes/Morais/Silva) and BMW Motorrad France Team Penz13.com are all potential race winners and would love to conclude the season on a high note after disappointing runs in 2015.

The Superstock win and title will be the objectives of Junior Team Suzuki LMS and Kawasaki teams Traqueur Louit Motos 33 and Tati Team Beaujolais.

The 2015 Bol d’Or has attracted an entry of 54 bikes.
