The DEOD SuperGP Champions Trophy heads down to sea level for the third round of the 2015 championship which will take place at the Cape Town’s Killarney circuit on Sunday, 17 May.
 Defending champion Clint Seller (NeoLife Africa Racing Yamaha) heads the points table after the first two rounds although, after a slightly disappointing outing by his high standards at Zwartkops, his lead is not quite as big as he would like it to be. Seller will be on his new Yamaha R1M for the first time in race conditions in Cape Town and the team is expecting great things from the new bike. Lance Isaacs, who is second on the championship log, claimed his first win of the season on the new Black Swan BMW S1000RR in the rain at Zwartkops and will be looking to continue his winning ways at his home track. Brent Harran (Kawasaki ZX10) ended Seller’s run of SuperPole wins last time out and won the first race of the day to move into third place behind Isaacs. Nicholas Kershaw (Tsunami Beach Bar BMW S1000RR) is currently in fourth place in the championship standings equal on points with Mathew Scholtz (Emtek Racing Yamaha R1) with Brandon Goode on the second Emtek Racing Yamaha R1 rounding out the top six. The Emtek team are quietly confident that their new R1M bikes will give them the boost that they are looking for despite the limited testing time they have had. Defending Super600 Champion Steven Odendaal has been busy since the last round at Zwartkops, filling in for the injured Axel Pons at the third round of the Moto2 World Championship in Argentina and then heading off to Portugal for the opening round of the 2015 FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 Championship. He heads to Cape Town full of confidence having won all four Super600 races in 2015 to lead the championship by 31 points and will be looking for another full-house of points on his NeoLife Africa racing Yamaha R6. Odendaal is followed on the championship log by a trio of Kawasaki riders led by Michael White (Consortium Shipping ZX6). He is followed by Adolf Boshoff (Toy Store / Indy Oil Zx6) and Blaze Baker (Russell Wood ZX6). Malcolm Rudman is in fifth place just a point ahead of Nicole van Aswegen (Triumph SA / Women in Motorsport Triumph 675), the only lady rider in the series. William Friend leads the SuperJunior category from Luca Coccioni and Brandon Staffen. The series, where all of the riders are mounted on identical KTM RC390 machines, is growing quickly and new faces could feature on the podium in Cape Town. Beau Levey (Motos KTM RC8) has won all four of the 2015 SuperM races although he was pushed hard by Themba Khumalo (Adrenalin Academy Honda) at Zwartkops who has since been given a wildcard ride in the European Junior Cup. Neil van Loggerenberg (KTM RC8) is second in the standings ahead of Jannie Moll (Motos KTM RC8). All of the regulars can expect some stiff competition from the Cape Superbike riders that are expected to make an appearance. |
