The local driver Juan Carlos Uribe (Can Am Maverick) is the provisional leader with 4h55m11s, after an intense fight with the returned Francisco “Chaleco” Lopez (Can Am Maverick) who after being away from competition returned to make is début in an SxS Casey Currie from the USA is thrid at 9m23s from Uribe
Finally, in the quad category the first race leader is the Bolivian Juan Carlos Salvatierra riding an Barren Racer One. Salvatiera, a former motorbike racer changed to the quads and is improving performance very fast needing 5h05m to complete the stage. Ignacio Flores was second at 6m59s and Emilio Choy third at 36m59s, both in Yamaha Raptor.

Desafio Inca 2018: South Racing Can-Am Team makes strong start
American racer Casey Currie teamed up with French navigator Laurent Lichtleuchter to lead the way for the South Racing Can-Am team at the end of the leg , the experienced off-road driver finishing the day in third place behind Can-Am Peru ‘s stage two winner Juan Carlos Uribe and Chile’s former Dakar bike rider Francesco ‘Chaleco’ Lopez.
The experienced Brazilian driver Reinaldo Varela and his regular co-driver Gustavo Gugelmin were fourth and the Brazilian pairing of Cristian Baumgart and Alberto Neto were classified in fifth. Chile’s Hernan Garces opted to race alone in his Can-Am and held an impressive sixth overall.
Argentina’s Adrian Yacopini and Ricardo Torlaschi ceded some time to their rivals in the fiercely contested SxS category and returned to Ica in seventh position.
Portugal’s Miguel Jordão and Lourial Roldan were classified in ninth, but delays cost Brazil’s Marcos Baumgart and his navigator Kleber Cincea over an hour and a half and they were down in 14th of the 22 survivors after day one.
The rally continues with two further gruelling desert stages in the Peruvian deserts around Ica on Saturday and Sunday.
