June 7-8 will see them competing in Round 3 of the 2019 MotorMart VW Challenge as well as the Phakisa 200 Endurance Race.
MotorMart VW Challenge
A host of strong results sees Mohamed Dangor heading into the weekend with 15 points behind his name. He finds himself in joint-tenth and fifth places on the respective overall and Class A points tables. The 2018 edition of the race saw the MotorMart Klerksdorp owner celebrating a good weekend at the Free State circuit.
“A long break between events saw us working hard on various aspects and we are confident about our ability to mount a strong assault for the remainder of our season. The calendar change placed us in a position to achieve our mid-season goals a bit earlier. Phakisa is a fast circuit, but with tyre wear being an issue it will be the thinking man’s race weekend.”
Stiaan Kriel heads up the Class B table with 32 points while occupying second place in the overall championship. He comes into the weekend with an impressive history at the Phakisa Freeway, however this was while he was competing in Class A.
“Like my entire season to date, this will be a new challenge and I’m thoroughly looking forward to maintaining my position in the championship by staying at the front of the class on track. Of course, I’ll be firmly focussed on the overall championship as well and a strong weekend will keep me in touch with Rory Atkinson.”
Robbie da Silva has yet to open his 2019 points tally and is looking forward to doing so at the circuit which saw an upward curve in performance in 2018.
“Since the 2018 Phakisa round my confidence has really grown. We’ve had our fair share of technical difficulties in the opening rounds for 2019, but we’re looking forward to bounce back strong. There was a lot of work that went into both the car as well as my own race craft during the break and the Phakisa Freeway will be a good time to put this to the test.”
Phakisa 200 Endurance Race
Dangor and Da Silva will be making their debut in the annual 200-kilometre race at the Phakisa Freeway. They will share driving duties in the MotorMart Klerksdorp Volkswagen Polo.
Kriel is no newcomer to this event. The two prior editions saw him competing alongside Robyn Kriel with the pair taking the Class 111/B honours in 2018. For the coming event, he’ll be partnering fellow MotorMart VW Challenge Class B competitor Deon Holliday Jnr in the Monitor Net Volkswagen Polo. This will be Holliday Jnr’s maiden Phakisa 200 entry.
Both cars have provisionally been entered in Class 111/X, but with classification being based on lap times this could change during the weekend.
