Double South African rally champion Enzo Kuun has ended the first day of the Toyota Cape Dealer Rally in third position, rapidly blowing out any cobwebs that may have developed since his last national championship event – the Sasol Rally, in April.

Kuun, driving the New Africa Developments Ford Fiesta usually campaigned by Japie van Niekerk, and with Van Niekerk’s regular navigator – Gerhard Snyman – alongside, finished the day in third place. He rapidly got into his stride, and recorded a third best stage time as well as two fourths, a fifth, and a seventh.
“There wasn’t a lot of time to plan for this event and it does take a few stages to get 100 percent sharp again,” admitted the lanky rally veteran. “Gerhard and I also had to click, but overall it has been a great day. Tomorrow should be even better. ”
Proceedings get underway at 8 am tomorrow (September 20), and 130 kilometres of race distance awaits. With the exception of the opening stage, today’s stages were run on tarmac, unlike the remaining seven, which are all on gravel.
