The 2015 National Production Car Championship (NPCC) goes down to the wire at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, 7 November, in what is the final round of this year’s event. Two racers will be duelling for overall championship honours on the day. Hennie Groenewald tops the standings followed by Michael Stephen of the Engen Xtreme Team.
Michael Stephen
Stephen has won the title on three previous occasions and heads into the final round needing to close a nine point gap on Groenewald.
Zwartkops has previously proved a happy hunting ground for Stephen. He has been a regular race winner at the circuit and has also previously clinched national titles in the final round of the championship at the venue.
“There’s no magic in winning championship titles,” says Stephen. “It is all about hard work and preparation, with a serious focus on race strategy and capitalising on opportunities presented along the way. This means taking every single possibility into account and including all the options into the strategy for race day.”
Three races will take place at the final event, with 10 points available for each race win. Add a reverse grid layout and the championship fight is not only far from over – but also very difficult to predict.
The final round provides an opportunity for Stephen’s Engen Xtreme Team teammate Simon Moss (38) to gain one more place in the championship fight. He has already achieved a top five position in the national championship standings – and is just seven points away from being able to claim fourth spot.
A good showing at Zwartkops could see Moss move up that one position, making 2015 his most successful NPCC season.
“I’ve had some good race weekends at Zwartkops before,” says Moss. “This season has seen a lot of progress in qualifying and race position – tying all of these together at one event, the final for 2015 – would be an excellent way to end the year,” says Moss.
The Engen Xtreme Audi S4 quattros will be in national racing action for the last time at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, 7 November, when they tackle the final round of the National Production Car Championship. In true Engen Xtreme Team style, they will be pace setters at the event, pushing for every single point as they challenge their rivals for honours one more time in 2015.
