FIA now committed to Brighton Declaration

The FIA has issued this image showing the special workshop groups in action at last week’s FIA Sport Conference in Munich.

Amongst the many subjects discussed was the need for a driver pathway for young drivers and, it was noted, female competitors.

One ASN recently admitted that only 8% of its licence holders were female.

Last week, Michèle Mouton, President of the FIA Women and Motor Sport Commission, signed the Brighton Declaration on women in sport on behalf of the FIA.

Over 400 organisations have signed the Declaration since the first signatories 1994.

The Declaration aims to

  • ensure that all women and girls have the opportunity to participate in sport in a safe and supportive environment which preserves the rights, dignity and respect of the individual;
  • increase the involvement of women in sport at all levels and in all functions and roles;
  • ensure that the knowledge, experiences and values of women contribute to the development of sport;
  • promote the recognition by women of the intrinsic value of sport and its contribution to personal development and healthy lifestyle.

In the image, there are at least 15 men discussing the various issues, presumably including the woman competitor problem.

2 women can clearly be seen in the picture. It is not clear whether they are part of the discussions. Both women are standing.

The 16-strong FIA Senate and the 27-strong FIA World Motor Sport Council contain no women members.
