A polesitter has not failed to win a race yet this year.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc are set to share the second row in third and fourth place, respectively.
Set to share the third row are McLaren’s Lando Norris and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll in fifth and sixth place, respectively. McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr., Renault teammates Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel are set to round out the top 10 in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.
Eliminated after the first round of qualifying were Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, Alfa Romeo teammates Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen, Haas’ Romain Grosjean and Williams rookie Nicholas Latifi. These five drivers qualified in 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th place, respectively.
Russell, who is now 25 for 25 in terms of outqualifying his teammates throughout his career, is under investigation for ignoring the yellow flags when Latifi spun out.
