Full extent of Solberg injuries revealed after Latvia crash

Having initially confirmed that Solberg had broken his collarbone in the semi-final two accident, the Torsby-based team has revealed that in addition to the broken collarbone, Solberg has broken ribs nine and 10 in the lower left of his back and has a bruised lung.

Solberg will be transferred to a hospital in Sweden, where his collarbone will be operated on in the coming days. Until that transfer, he remains in hospital in Riga.

The news raises further significant doubt over Solberg’s ability to race in the penultimate round of the series at the Estering in Germany next week.

The double World RX champion is second in the World RX drivers’ standings, behind newly-crowned teammate Johan Kristoffersson, but his retirement from the Latvian round means he is now just five points ahead of outgoing champion Mattias Ekstrom and 10 ahead of Sebastien Loeb.

The PSRX squad has entered three Polo GTIs for the Buxtehude event, Volkswagen Motorsport test driver Dieter Depping planned to join Solberg and Kristoffersson in the team.
