He kicked off his 2016 campaign with a podium in Monte Carlo, but he didn’t stand on the podium for the next six rallies as he retired three times and couldn’t do better than fifth in the rest.

Gilbert, who is 11th in the standings, will take part in the main class in Rally Wales GB as the PH Sport-run Abu Dhabi Total WRT squad will enter four cars.

Alongside Gilbert, Kris Meeke and Craig Breen will take part in their third consecutive rally.

Stephane Lefebvre, who was injured after crashing out in Rally Germany, will also return after missing two rallies.

After not taking part in the 2016 season as a works entry in order to develop its 2017-spec car, Citroen will be one of four full manufacturer teams next year with a line-up of Meeke, Breen and Lefebvre.
