The WRC, hosted by the FIA, is one of the two most prominent international automobile races, along with the Formula One (F1). It is known as the most intense motorsport competition in the world.
According to the carmaker, the Yvan Muller Racing Team, which used the Hyundai i30 N TCR racing cars, ranked first for its overall driving performances in the 2018 WTCR. The runner-up, BRC Racing Team, drove the same car.
In addition, Gabriel Tarquini of the BRC Racing Team was selected as the best driver of the competition. The Yvan Muller Racing Team’s Yvan Muller was selected as the second-best.
“Hyundai Motorsport’s customer racing activities have truly captured the spirit of Hyundai and our N high-performance brand with the performance of the i30 N TCR. The successes of our customers this year, in particular the Yvan Muller Racing Team and Gabriele Tarquini taking the maiden WTCR title, have been fantastic to follow,” said Hyundai Motor Executive vice president Thomas Schemera, who leads the product planning & strategy division and the high performance vehicle & motorsport division.
Tarquini said the hard work by all of his team members and Hyundai Motor enabled the victory.
“The competition in FIA WTCR this year has been fantastic ― right down to the final race. There have been so many good moments, and the Hyundai i30 N TCR has proved itself to be the car to beat all season,” he said.
“I, in fact all the Hyundai drivers, have been fast and consistent all year, and with both titles for a Hyundai there is the evidence to prove it.”
In the 2018 WRC, the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team took second place among manufacturers. Thierry Neuville was named the second-best driver in the competition with the Hyundai i20.
