The Renties Ypres Rally will once again live up to its top international status in the last weekend of June. In addition to the tenors of the Belgian and British championships, former WRC factory driver Craig Breen will also start. The Irishman chooses a Volkswagen Polo R5 from BMA, the team of Bernard Munster, to give a try to victory.
The 29-year-old vice-European champion of 2015 has driven three seasons as a factory driver for Citroën in the World Championship. This year he has put together a mixed program in addition to a campaign in the Irish championship.
“This season I can taste various things. For example, I have already tested with a Supercar in Rallycross, but rally remains my priority. In the Irish championship everything is going great. We are still unbeaten with our Ford Fiesta R5, still the most competitive I also rode two races of the Italian championship with a Skoda Fabia R5, including a victory in Sanremo, and it is my ambition to return to the World Championship as quickly as possible and that’s why I consciously look for We are always spoiled in Ypres, where the Renties Ypres Rally is not only one of the most beautiful, but also the strongest occupied asphalt rallies in Europe. “
Craig Breen is very popular in Belgium, among other things because of his victory in the Condroz Rally, but certainly also because of his three participations in the Ypres Rally. After a third place in 2013 with the Peugeot 207 Super 2000, two assignments followed in 2014 and 2015, each time due to mechanical problems.
“The track in Ypres suits me, but it did not bring me much luck. In 2014, the transmission broke when I was fighting for the victory and in 2015 I was in the lead with the 208 T16 until the engine warmed up after a small I am already looking forward to taking on Freddy Loix again, who always managed to win, even though he was not always the fastest. “
Craig Breen, who will be navigated by Paul Nagle, former winner in Ypres with Kris Meeke, will ride the Renties Ypres Rally with a Volkswagen Polo R5, more specifically a copy from the studios of BMA, the team of Bernard Munster.
“This year I have the opportunity to drive different cars. After the Skoda Fabia R5 in Italy, the Ford Fiesta R5 in Ireland, I will start in Ieper with a VW Polo R5. I have not driven it yet, but I I am convinced that it will be a top car. ”
Because, Craig Breen has one goal at the start in Ypres. “Yes, I can be clear about that: I am coming to win !,” laughs Craig Breen.
