After a lengthy absence from serious competition the Inex Legends made an unscheduled trip to Dezzi Raceway on May 19 for round 3 of this year’s championship, and the enforced lay off only made everyone more determined to put on an entertaining day for the Kwazulu Natal faithful. Although brothers Gerhard and Charl Roux were not available to contest this round, the rest of the pack was raring to go and it showed.

Devon Robertson
Devin Robertson put his wild card status to good effect and won all 3 heats. In race 1 he was followed over the line by Jason Loosemore and Justin Robertson. Defending champion Richard Upton, driving in his first race this season, was fourth after a thrilling race long battle with Richard van Heerde, in which the pair rubbed wheels more than once. A scant 0.300 of a second separated the two over the line. Behind van Heerde, Johan van der Venter was steady in his drive to a hotly contested sixth ahead of Ian Upton. The two youngsters in the pack, Jagger Robertson and Dane van Heerde were next up in eighth and ninth. Neville Loosemore and Steven Levin also had a good scrap of their own and finished ahead of Chris Hoy.
Hoy then led the pack into turn 1 at the start of heat 2, followed by father and son duo Richard and Dane van Heerde . Devin Robertson wasted no time scything his way through the field and soon took control at the front, but in his wake it was open warfare with Jason Loosemore and van Heerde Snr. in hot pursuit, ahead of Justin Robertson and Richard Upton. After the dust had settled Devin Robertson crossed the line in first place, with Loosemore second and Richard van Heerde in third place. Richard Upton was fourth ahead of Justin Robertson, with Dane van Heerde impressively rounding off the top six.
Chris Hoy and Steven Levin led the pack into turn 1 for heat 3 but Devin soon took charge again, with Jason Loosemore chasing after him to finish second. Richard Upton revived his championship winning form with a fine drive to third place, ahead of Richard van Heerde and Justin Robertson. Johan van der Venter completed the top six.
In the category results, Richard van Heerde was the top Master, Loosemore the top Pro, Dane van Heerde the first semi-pro. Young Jagger Robertson, who had never seen Dezzi Raceway let alone raced in it, was the Young Lion.
The Inex Legends will join the rest of the EV Dynamics Inland Championship contestants on June 2nd at Midvaal for their next round.” ends
