A day after undergoing surgery on her fractured spine, injured in Sunday’s spectacular crash at the Macau Grand Prix, German F3 racer Sophia Floersch took to social media to provide an update on her recovery and to thank those who took part in her rescue and treatment, as well as well-wishers for their ongoing messages of support.
“I survived the operation which took 11 hours well. Hope from now on it only gets better,” Floersch, 17, posted on her Facebook page. “I have to stay a few more days in Macau until I’m transportable. I want to thank all of my fans for every single get-well wishes, which I now am reading. This really motivates me and gives me courage.
Initial prognosis for Floersch’s recovery were promising following surgery, with her team principal Frits van Amersfoort telling the BBC World Service, “There’s no fear of paralysis whatsoever” after the repair of the spinal fracture.
Floersch indicated that she intends to resume her racing career as soon possible.
“I’m going to come back, btw,” the European F3 series regular said. “Dallara built a very good chassis.”
