Jazeman, Weiron and Afiq make Asian Le Mans history

PETALING JAYA: Jazeman Jaafar, Weiron Tan and Afiq Ikhwan Yazid made history for Malaysia by blazing the track to victory in the 6 Hours of Buriram race in Thailand. It is the first all-Malaysian triumph in the Asian Le Mans Series, marking a sweet debut for Jazeman, Weiron and Afiq, who were racing together for the first time with the support of Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

The trio, competing for Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota team, were pushed hard throughout the race by their teammates Stephane Richelmi, Harrison Newey, Thomas Laurent before taking the chequered flag after 237 laps at Chang International Circuit yesterday.

There was an early scare for Jazeman, who drove the first stint. He ran over a traffic cone coming out of the pit and it got caught in the bodywork of the car, causing the engine and brake temperatures to increase.

The next driver, Afiq, stepped in and managed to take over the lead.

Weiron took over for the last two hours and he fought hard to defend the lead.

Jazeman described the feat as unbelievable as there were plenty of tense moments that they had to endure before scoring the win.

“I had such a great time in Thailand. Racing with Weiron and Afiq was special and bringing home the win for Malaysia and SIC made it even sweeter,” said Jazeman.
