On Monday, 15 October, the racing gets serious, with the caravan heading north to Barberspan. The 457 km route will start with a 249 km liason followed by a 208 km special that will take the caravan directly to the bivouac. The first stage will have a “bonus”, being a Marathon stage, so no assistance will be allowed on the racing vehicles except the ones the crews can do by themselves.
Saving the vehicles on the first day will then be of extreme importance, because if this first day’s route is relatively short, on following day the distance to be covered will be enormous. The participants will have to drive 802 km starting in Barberspan and finishing in Digtebos. Along the way two special stages have to be completed, the 208 km first one and later the 288 km second one.
The third day will see the caravan returning to Mafikeng, starting right from Digtebos for a 330 km special followed by a short 70km liason.
Thursday, 18 October will be another very long day. The organizers prepared for this fourth day a 785 km loop that starts and finishes in Mafikeng and includes two special stages, a 238 km and a 307 km one.
The race ends on Friday, 19 October, with another loop around in the Mafikeng area. This final leg will have a total distance of 231 km, starting with a very short 5 km liason followed by a 226 km special that will take the competitors directly to the finish line.
After five days on the road, the participants of the 2018 Kahalari Rally should will have 2765 km behind them, including 1875 km against the clock and 870 km in liaisons.
