Lategan falls out of Waldviertel Rally

South Africa’s Henk Lategan, driving a Skoda Fabia S2000, fell out of the Rally Waldviertel on stage 12 while leading the event by 3:55.2.Lategan went off the road in the wet and slippery conditions. He took the lead of the event early yesterday.

The Rally Waldviertel is the final round of the FIA European Trophy Challenge. Lategan broke a control arm on the Skoda when he tried to get back on the road and had to withdraw.

The rally was won by Christian Mrlik driving a Subaru Impresa STi by 22.2 seconds fromJozsef Trencenyi in a Ford Fiesta R5.

The rally was held over 13 stages of 175km and Lategan went off the road on stage 12. It had rained overnight and during the day today and conditions were difficult. The gravel stages today were very slippery and muddy as a result of the rain.

Lategan won five of the 13 stages, three in a row yesterday and two today.
