There will only be 50 of these cars worldwide, and two color choices: McLaren Orange and a dark Sarthe Gray. Each car’s VIN will start with 298—the number of laps the winning F1 GTR completed—and there’s a McLaren 25th-anniversary Le Mans emblem on the lower body-side panel. Other than that, the cars are differentiated with a black roof scoop, carbon front fenders, gold brakes, and black cladding. In typical McLaren fashion, customers can get an array of added McLaren Special Operations (MSO) parts added.
Like the two exterior color choices, the special-edition cars’ interiors are offered in two color themes: they all have black Alcantara racing seats, but have either McLaren Orange or Dove Gray accents. The McLaren 25th-anniversary Le Mans logo is embroidered into the headrests and the floor mats. Customers can also opt for a titanium harness bar and six-point harnesses from MSO.
The McLaren 720S is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that produces 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. During Car and Driver testing, the 720S launched to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, but that was using its Launch button, which is intertwined with the radio, climate, and navigation controls. Squeeze both pedals, sit at around 3200 rpm for four full seconds, see “Boost Ready” flash on the digital instrument cluster, and then launch into another dimension.
The McLaren 720S Le Mans special edition is available to order now for the equivalent of about $285,600 and will arrive starting in September.
