The 4th round of the 2015-16 Emirates Desert Championship, the national baja championship for cars, buggies, motorcycles and quads, takes place this Friday 12th February in the Al Faqa’a region, along the Dubai/Abu Dhabi border. The region previously held the 3rd round in November 2015 and proved so popular that event organisers, the Emirates Motor Sport Federation (EMSF) and Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) decided to return once more before the end of the season. The terrain consists of a mixture of large dunes and fast valleys, and offers exciting and enjoyable racing for all competitors. The first two rounds were held in the Lisalli and Margham regions of Dubai. Commenting on the organization of EDC Round 4, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the EMSF and ATCUAE, said “the Emirates Desert Championship popularity is increasing steadily and with only one more event to come next month, the competition is heating up. It is also great to see new people coming into the sport for the first time at Rd 4”. Ahead of Rd 4, Emirati driver Ahmed Al Fahim currently leads the BUGGY competition, with compatriot Ali Matar Al Ketbi leading the AUTO competition. The QUAD class is proving to be one of the most competitive so far this season, with multiple riders capable of winning the event. For the MOTORCYCLES, South African Ross Runnalls dominates the competition so far after winning the first three rounds in this season. The race on Friday 12th February starts at 08:30am and runs for two hours with the motorcycles and quads navigating a route of approximately 25kms and the cars and buggies on a separate route of approximately 20kms. |
