NASCAR results at Pocono: Martin Truex Jr. holds off Kyle Larson for victory

Martin Truex Jr. won for the second time in three tries at his home track. This is his 17th career win. Kyle Busch thought all the drama was taken out of the race in Stage 3. He couldn’t have been anymore wrong.

When Kyle Larson clipped Derrick Cope resulting in a caution late in the race, every driver got an opportunity to go into pit road and change their tires. What could have resulted was a stagnant last 35 laps of the race or so. What actually ensued was a run of cautions and numerous lead changes. One driver described it as a “s— show.”

It was a battle Martin Truex Jr. was able to win. It was his second win in three races at Pocono and his second win of the season. It was the 17th win of his career.

“The No. 4, the 18, the 78, we went at it all day long,” Truex told FS1 after the race. “Fortunately we came out on top today so it was pretty awesome.”

In all the craziness in the final laps Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones and Alex Bowman were all involved in wrecks. Kyle Larson finished second while Kyle Busch was third and Kevin Harvick was fourth.

A little further back in the pack was William Byron who finished a solid 18th. Byron is in the running for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year with Bubba Wallace Jr. Wallace was unable to finish the race as he shifted into the wrong gear and messed up his engine in Stage 3.
