Ogier storms SS5 to regain Rallye Deutschland lead

After a 30-minute service, the crews head into SS5, the 14.84km Sauertal test. The schedule has been pushed back five minutes, meaning that the start times will be slightly later than originally time-tabled.

Sebastien Ogier was fastest through this section this morning, and he’s done it again, regaining the rally lead in the process. ‘I’m quite happy with the car – the set-up was good. Some of the corners were cleaner than I was expecting, so I list a little time there, but it’s better to be surprised like that and not the other way around.’

Ogier’s time of 7:56.3 was some 2.5 seconds faster than team mate Jari-Matti Latvala – Ogier’s re-found rally lead is 2.4 seconds. ‘I’m losing in the cuts.’ explained Latvala. ‘He’s doing a better job there I think.’

Third Volkswagen driver Andreas Mikkelsen continued his streak of third fastest stages, with Kris Meeke fourth, and thankfully his Citroen is undamaged after this morning’s incident. ‘Generally the stage is a bit cleaner than before. The car is fine after we bent the wheel earlier.’ Kris explained.

Ott Tanak and Dani Sordo complete the top six. The Waxweiler repeat is next up, and begins at 15:58 local time.
