Opel’s ERC season “could hardly have been better”

Opel Motorsport director Jörg Schrott says that his team’s season surpassed all expectations in the FIA European Rally Championship, claiming the top four places in the ERC Junior standings and also clinching the ERC3 class.

“The Adam R2 showed that it is the car to beat in Europe,” he said – and completing Opel’s joy was the crowning of the team’s home hero Marijan Griebel as the first European champion from Germany in 15 years.

With the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup, the German manufacturer has put in place a three-stage promotional platform, with the ERC at the very top level. The 140-horsepower Adam R2 has also claimed class championship wins in European countries that include Britain, Spain, Denmark and the Netherlands.

“The ADAC Opel Rallye Cup has firmly established itself as a spectacular, affordable stage for young talent,” added Schrott. “And with the ADAC Opel Rallye Academy, we have created a new, effective base structure for young German rally talents. This is what effective talent promotion looks like.”
