Shaun La Réserveé keen to continue Polo Cup winning ways in Port Elizabeth
Pepper Racing heads to Port Elizabeth with a spring in its step following veteran Engen Volkswagen Polo Cup racer Shaun La Réserveé’s dominant form in Cape Town last time out, while teammates Brad Benningfield enjoyed his best results to date and Daniel Duminy showed impressive form at Killarney.
La Réserveé ruled the Cape roost in his Alpine Volkswagen Pepper Racing Polo at Killarney, driving away to win the first race before an engine misfire slowed his progress while he was solidly leading the second heat. Now Shaun is intent on nothing less than finishing it off properly at the twisty and demanding Aldo Scribante following a six week break Saturday 4 June.
“I’m really looking forward to PE after the pace we had in Cape Town,” Shaun confirmed. “The team has been hard at work trying to find the misfire that slowed us in the last race and we’ll see if its been resolved when we go testing. “But I’m going to PE with the aim of walking away with the overall win,” the Durban racer warned.
It’s been a good week for Jozi youngster Brad Benningfield, who just received news that he is one of 18 drivers selected for the prestigious MSA Motorsport Development Academy in July. The Nashua Pepper Racing Polo driver who studies journalism at Rhodes University 100km up the N2 from Aldo Scribante, showed great form in Cape Town and is keen on improving further at his second-home race.
“I’m excited for the PE race considering it’s basically my home round because I’m here in Grahamstown,” Brad pointed out “I have a lot of friends coming so the pressure is on, but I’ve made big steps with the car and team at each outing so far and the front guys aren’t too far away. “PE is a challenging track and will be even more so in the Polo because of the huge tyre wear, but I’m counting down the days until I can get back in the car and push to the max.”
Ballito main circuit rookie Daniel Duminy is also fully intent on continuing his strong form in the SMD Pepper Racing Polo on his first visit to Aldo Scribante. “I’m really looking forward to get back into the car,” Daniel admitted. “We are slowly getting there and with Iain and the team’s help, I’m sure that we will be fine and that it will be a good weekend. “I’ve heard PE is a fast and technical track, which I like, but my mindset is once again to go there knowing that to finish first you must first finish.”
“Killarney showed that we are well up to winning and we intend to make it a double this weekend,” team boss Iain Pepper warned. “Shaun is ready to continue his winning ways and we intend to give him the car to do just that; Brad is improving nicely and it will be another learning weekend for Daniel, whose consistency is bound to bring him through. “And we really enjoy racing in the Friendly City – bring it on!”
