Bob Akin Motor Racing ran Coca-Cola themed liveries from 1980 to 1987—first in the traditional red and white, then later switching to black and white once Yokohama came on as an additional sponsor. Porsche chose to commemorate the early red-and-white livery, a nod to the Coca-Cola Porsche 962 that took Akin, Hans Stuck and Jo Gartner to victory at Sebring in 1986.
Porsche’s throwback livery is a nod to Atlanta, too—home of Coca-Cola, Porsche Cars North America, and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, where the Motul Petit Le Mans will bring the 2019 IMSA season to a close.
Porsche will enter two 911 RSRs in the Petit Le Mans: No. 911, driven by Patrick Pilet, Nick Tandy and Frédéric Makowiecki, the team that won the 2015 Petit Le Mans overall; and No. 912, driven by Earl Bramber, Laurens Vanthoor and Mathieu Jaminet. Just like the Porsche 962 of the early 1980s, the 911s will wear brilliant white BBS wheels.
