Rhys Millen drove his electric-powered eO PP03 , and set a new record time for battery-powered cars of 9m07.222s to take the overall victory. That’s still nearly a minute off the all-time PPIHC record set by rally legend Sebastien Loeb in 2013, but marked a significant milestone for electric technology. Another electric-powered vehicle – the e-Runner driven by Piles Peak veteran Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima, finished second overall with a time of 9m32.401s, to capture second place.
The eO PP03 produces 1020 kW (1367hp) peak power thanks to a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and six YASA-400 electric motors with in-house developed eO controllers. The all-electric vehicle was assembled by Drive eO, a Latvian engineering company specializing in the design and manufacture of electric and hybrid electric prototype vehicles.
Paul Dallenbach won Open-Wheel with a new class record of 9m36.496s, while Porsche stalwart Jeff Zwart took another Time Attack 1 class victory, posting the fourth-best overall time of 9m46.243s. The Unlimited class which usually produces the overall winner, was topped by Dominic Dobson in a Radical SR8, whose run of 10m15.289s ranked eighth overall.
