A podium and ninth place were hardly fair reward for a dominant performance by Richard Lyons in the opening two rounds of the GT Asia championship in Korea.
Lyons, teamed with Hong Hong driver Frank Yu in the Craft Bamboo team’s Aston Martin Vantage, was fastest in all pre-race practice sessions and qualified on pole position at the Korean Grand Prix circuit in Yeongam.
He drove the first stint in race one and handed over to Yu with the Aston Martin in second place before they eventually finished third behind the winning Ferrari of Anthony Liu and Davide Rizzo.
In race two, Yu ran as high as fourth but dropped to sixth because of a pit stop penalty. Lyons managed to take over and quickly climbed to third with a series of record laps only for a late gearbox problem to see him fall back to ninth as team-mates Darryl O’Young and Jonathan Venter took the victory.
