Rock ‘n Roll to the beat and the sound of the 60’s – Zwartkops – Saturday, 30th January

Rock ‘n Roll to the beat and the sound of the 60’s – The Golden Age of Motor racing. When the 2nd World War babies grew up their music was rock ‘n roll and the beat was “Go Go Go” which gave birth to the Golden Age of Motor racing.

Zwattkops heritageOn Saturday and Sunday Zwartkops will vibrate to the sound of rock ‘n roll with some of the greatest racing cars which were ever raced in the 60’s. There will be over 400 racing cars and motorcycles competing over the two days. Heading the list for speed will be the International Sports Racing cars with the iconic Porsche 917’s, Big Banger Lola’s, Chevrons, Ford GT40’s and the Le Mans Porsches. An entry list of 25 Sports racers with eight international participants – a Sauber, Chev Grand Sport, Chevrons, Lola with drivers from Sweden, Netherlands and UK.

The South African Tourist Trophy for Pre’1968 Sports & GT cars which competed at Le Mans/Sebring long distance events has 34 entries with five GT40’s, three Lola T70’s, three Daytona Coupes, McLaren, Cobras, Lotus Elans and Chevrons. Of particular interest will be a young lady racer from China, Chloee Wang. The first time a Chinese National has competed on South African soil and a lady to boot! Whilst South Africans are expected to be up front the International drivers from UK, Sweden and Holland will keep them honest.

The “Super-Prix” of Formula Juniors are of very special interest, they may be small but they are quick and of major interest as it was the formula that spurned the great race car teams such as, Lotus, Brabham, Lola … 18 Entries, 13 different models with UK, European, New-Zealand and South African drivers.

The two ton Galaxie’s, Plymouths, Chevs and Ford Mustangs with the legendary and multiple races – Sarel vd Merwe and Hennie Groenewald will be one of the highlights on the day as they battle for supremacy – 23 Legends including, highly competitive under 2 litre class Lotus Cortina, Alfa’s, BMW…

Then the Champion of Champions, a key focus on the day with past, present and future champions in equally matched V8’s, Galaxies, Mustangs, Mercury Comet, Fairlane, Leeroy Poulter, Jeffrey Kruger, Hennie Groenewald, Ben Morgenrood…

LITTLE Giants – those giant killing little cars of the sixties who took on the big bangers has a field of over 35 Pre’1966 Productions, Sports and GT cars.

Historic Saloons have over 60 entries, plus the SA Single Seaters of the 60’s. The Isle of Man TT Motorcycles for Super Bikes with 8 big name Internationals competing have a special event on Saturday.

Sunday is an all bike day with Isle of Man Bikes, Historic Motorcycle Group – The Day of the Champion for motorcycles.

A great weekend of motor racing – something for everybody – plenty of family entertainment, FREE grandstands, open pits, experience the beat of rock ‘n roll and the speed “Go Go Go” generation of the sixties.
