Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has previously warned both of his drivers they must find a way to work together or he could be forced into making changes, and it appears as if Rosberg is the man under threat as Hamilton is tied down to a long-term deal. Rosberg’s current deal comes to an end after the 2016 season and Wolff hasn’t ruled out an extension, but he has no immediate plans to hold discussions with the German driver.
“The line-up is a great line-up,” Wolff told Autosport. “Both of them are a major part of the team and responsible for getting the team to where we are today. “But it’s early days to discuss that [Rosberg’s contract]. I want to see how the season pans out. “There are areas we want to develop altogether as a team, and let’s see how that goes.”
